Realise that you are a sinner.

Do you still believe that you are a good person? The truth is that everyone of us fall short of God’s perfect standard. The Bible tells us that ‘there is none righteous, no, not one,’ (Romans 3:10), ‘for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.’ (Romans 3:23) We will all stand before the creator God one day, and if we are judged upon our own merit, the Bible tells us that we ‘have been weighed on the balances and have not measured up.’ (Daniel 5:27)

Recognise that Jesus Christ died on the cross for you.

The penalty, the payment that we are due for our sin, is death. The Bible says that ‘the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ (Romans 6:23) Our wages are due and payable, ‘but God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8). This is the great news of the mercy and grace of God, that He has paid the penalty of your sin and my sin, through the death of Jesus Christ in our place!

Repent of your sin and run the other way.

The Bible says to ‘repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.’ (Acts 3:19) To repent means that instead of running away from God, we change our direction in life, and run toward Him. When we confess and repent, we are agreeing with God that we need His grace and forgiveness in our lives. The Bible says ‘confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.’ (Romans 10:9) It is a simple yet profound truth!

Receive Jesus Christ into your life.

When you choose to turn back toward God, you are choosing to follow Jesus. He says ‘I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in…’ (Revelation 3:20) Jesus enters into the life and heart of the believer, and when you receive Him, the Bible says ‘that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.’ (Romans 8:38-39). If you would like to have this relationship with Jesus, pray this prayer and mean it in your heart:

Dear Jesus, I am a sinner in desperate need of a saviour. I believe that you are God and you died on a cross and rose from the dead to save me from my sins. Right now I turn back to you Jesus, and I ask you to come into my life, to be my saviour and king. Thankyou so much for saving me, I love you Jesus. Amen
