Sounds-Write
Sounds-Write is a high quality linguistic phonics programme that develops phonological awareness, decoding and sight recognition of familiar words. As teaching literacy needs to be consistent, parents will be given instructions and simple activities to continue with at home.
Parents are required to join for all classes.
Initial Code A (4-6/7): Beginner Readers
Students will learn to segment, blend and manipulate sounds. They will need no prior experience. The hope would be to cover all letters of the alphabet, as well as double consonants by the end of Term 2.
Initial Code B (5-6/7): Early Readers (If there is a need)
Students will learn digraphs (ch, wh, th etc) as well as sounds that can be spelled in more than one way (c, ck, k). We will also move from consonant vowel consonant (CVC, eg; mat) to VCC, CVCC, CCVCC and on to all single syllable spellings.
Extended Code A (7-10): Intermediate Readers
Students will learn that a spelling can represent more than one sound (eg book and moon). We will move quickly through the first units to determine where the group needs to start from.
