Soapstone Carving
Soapstone is a naturally soft stone that has been carved for centuries. It can be shaped easily using hand tools to a very high level of detail.
This class will take students through the design and carving process using traditional hand tools to create one small and one larger stone art piece. Students will need to wear clothes that are ok to get dusty, although we will do our best to minimise dust. Dust masks will be provided.

Age Suitability: Class 1 - 8+ yrs of age; Class 2 - 5-7 yrs of age
Group Size: Class 1 - 9 maximum; Class 2 - 8 maximum
Child Requirements: Clothes that can get a little dusty!
Tutor: Ben Cole-Piper - While living in Canada I spent some time teaching soapstone carving classes for an art gallery and learning from some talented artists. The carving studio was next door to the gallery in a hotel in Whistler. I had the opportunity to teach groups, families and people of all ages, guiding them through the design and carving process. Having an art and design background, I thoroughly enjoyed working with stone as a medium and eventually displayed some of my own work in the gallery.
Cost: $120 / child / term

Knitting Intermediate
This term in knitting we will be making a fun and colourful pencil case, which can also double as a knitting bag. If time permits, we will also make a scarf. Different colours of yarn will be needed to help practice changing colours.
Age Suitability: All ages but must know how to do the basic garter stitch.
Group Size: 6 maximum
Child Requirements: Any needles you have but if purchasing new needles size 8 are recommended, 2+ balls of yarn (ideally 8-12 ply), three buttons of your choice.

Guitar Beginners
Learn to play the guitar!
Ben is an accomplished guitarist, with experience teaching both one-on-one and in a group setting. In this course, students will learn foundational guitar skills, such as reading tablature, plucking and picking, strumming and basic chords.
Age Suitability: 8+ yrs of age
Group Size: 8 maximum
Student Requirements: Students will require an A4 display folder for music sheets and an acoustic 6 string guitar to use. Nylon strings are recommended for a complete beginner and primary aged students.

Reading Time
We invite all kids, big and small, to join in and listen to a collection of stories. Bring your pillow and blankie or a snack and huddle up for some adventures.

Nature Science
Nature Science is back and we are so looking forward to getting outside, being creative, getting dirty, as we explore God’s creation together! This term will be a combination of science and play! Come prepared to have lots of fun and perhaps get a little dirty.
Age Suitability: 3-8 yrs of age

Crochet Beginners
This class is for anyone starting out with crochet. There is no minimum (or maximum) age, however students need to have adequate fine motor skills, patience and a desire to keep trying. We will cover a number of fundamental stitches including; single, double, triple, slip stitch, increase and decrease. Students will learn how to crochet a granny square and medium sized stuffed animal (more if time permits).
Age Suitability: Age: 7+ however depends on dexterity and patience of the individual.
Student Requirements: Crochet hooks: one 5mm and one 6.5mm; Yarn: one skein of any colour 8ply wool/yarn and 1 skein of plush blanket yarn 300g; and One yarn needle per family

Girl STEM
Here’s a special class just for girls! Come get inspired, challenged, sticky and creative while we delve into a world of science experiments and mixing. We’ll take a close look at the Play Dough process and see what makes it gross, what makes it better and what fun experiments we can do along the way. This class is open to girls of all ages from 5 to 15+ and will be tailored appropriately.
Come get sticky, learn lots and have fun with Astin.
Age Suitability: Age: 5-15+

Note: Be advised that wheat flour, grapeseed oil and food colouring will be used (but not consumed) in this class.
Painting + Colour Beginners
We are very excited to introduce art into our colorful array of classes this term, and to offer it to students ages eight and above. Students with a passion for creativity will enjoy this beginners class that offers a wealth of knowledge they will put into practice through paint and brushes. Beginning with the colour wheel, students will enjoy expressing themselves through art, learning how to mix colors, recognize colour opposites and learn to pair relating colours. Learning to balance shapes and colours are also important, and students will be offered the chance to explore the basics of drawing in assistance to this creative aspect.
We are very excited to be offering a class where your kiddos will have the opportunity to explore color and paint. Together we will learn:
The colour wheel
The art of mixing
Opposites in colours
Colour relationships that like each other
Basic drawing skills (like learning to balance shapes and colour)
And along the way we will learn to express ourselves through art.

Campfire Fun
The campfire is one of the absolute BEST things about camping. At our weekly gathering around the fire, we are going to cook up some fun and laughter as we play some exciting campfire games. Get ready to make some memories!

Cooking
This term it’s all about the sauce! We’ll be making marinades, salsas, chutneys, dipping sauces and anything that brings your food to life.
